The Powerful Truth About How You're Doing, Mama
For new moms, feeling confident can be a real challenge. Who doesn’t feel a little shaky when we’re learning something for the first time? Even the most self-assured, accomplished women can take a while to get the hang of being a mom.
Children grow and change really quickly, especially newborns, and there isn’t a lot of time to settle in and feel like we’ve mastered things. Just when we’ve figured out one stage, we’re moving on to the next. Your baby won’t pat you on the back, and say, “Hey, Mom, excellent job you’re doing today!” (If only!) So, how do we know if we’re doing a good job?
Is getting the baby through the day in one piece without the house burning down proof? (It certainly feels impressive some days!)
As moms, we’re our own worst critics. We tend to cite our shortcomings and forget to measure our successes. And that’s what makes this video so great.
A group of moms were asked to describe themselves as parents, and the result was what you’d expect: women who were hard on themselves; doing their best but focused on their perceived shortcomings. Then these moms got a chance to watch how their children described them. The result was nothing short of magical.
So, well done, mama. Go easy on yourself ... you’re doing just great. The experts have spoken.
Happy Mother’s Day!
